MTBing in Runyon Canyon Park

Went MTBing in RCP earlier today. Unlike the trip reports there, I ascended then descended, I didn't just do a one-way. Took eastern route (up the steps made with railroad ties to the overlook with the benches) instead of the route suggested as Ride #3 in the excellent book Mountain Biking L.A. County (Southern Section). I heartily recommend you buy that book. Heck, buy 100,000 or more, so I can get 8% instead of 5%. I biked to the start of the path to the "low overlook," then I had to carry/push the bike up to the overlook. I was able to bike the rest of the way to Mulholland, then to the "high overlook," and then I came down using the western route featured in the book. The western route is paved starting halfway; next time I'll reverse the procedure. I saw neither celebrities nor guys having sex in the bushes.

To find out about much more aesthetic MTB trails, you can signup for a 14-day free trial and get extensive information on a wide variety of mountain biking trails in Los Angeles, Southern California, and other areas.

I think I'm going to get a cheap old external frame backpack at a garage sale and convert it into a carrier for the bike. If that works out OK, I could take the bike with me to do something like Strawberry Peak. Doing third-class rock with a 30 lb. bike strapped to my back is strangely appealing.

As you will see now there are No Bike signs posted everywhere.
Come to Runyon Canyon and enjoy the hike but leave your bike at home.
People are getting seriously hurt by the bikers ignoring the fact that there are people hiking their and running them over.
There was an evil sign hanging there that was a WARNING from a biker saying that you bikers would purposely hurt the hikers. Nice, very nice.

Hey, Jen, lighten up and speak the truth - bikes are allowed in runyon dawn to dark. You just wanna hog it all for yourself and your dogs, doncha?
