Al Gore, Arianna Huffington attend Sierra Club Summit; drive off in massive SUVs

Arianna Huffington and Al Gore recently spoke at the Sierra Club Summit in San Franciso.

According to this report, they drove off in massive SUVs.

For Big Wooden Al, it was a Cadillac Escalade.

For the Greek siren, it was a less bling-blingy Chevy Suburban. She had a driver.

However, please note carefully that it doesn't really matter what they personally drove. Inside the Summit, they inspired dozens of other, smaller people to drive smaller cars, and that's what matters.

UPDATE: Arianna has been completely, positively exonerated. According to the HuffPost webmaster:

While the reporter was absolutely right that Arianna arrived at the meeting in an SUV, he didn't get the whole story. Namely, that the SUV had been sent by the Sierra Club to bring Arianna from the San Francisco airport to the Sierra Club conference at the Moscone Center, that she had been stunned when it arrived, and had raised the point with the organizers about the inappropriateness of the vehicle. This wasn't a case of hypocrisy... but rather a bad choice made by an otherwise worthy organization.

Damn the Sierra Club!

UPDATE 2: Now, you can bid on a picture of Arianna in the SUV. The pic is personally signed by Doug from Upland, so click the link to bid on this souvenir of failed limousine liberal thinking today.

"otherwise worthy organization"

Uh-huh. The "otherwise worthy" part of the SC is shrinking year by year.

I can easily imagine that an environmental organization that has convinced itself that population added to the US via immigration isn't really part of the overpopulation, sprawl, etc problems could also not see the irony in sending an SUV to pick up a speaker. More "saints elsewhere" who want to do good works as long as they themselves aren't inconvenienced.....

Had I not been able to borrow a camera just in time, Arianna would have simply denied this. I will take her seriously when she sells the 9,000 sq ft house that uses at least 5 times the energy of an average home and she gives all the Huffington oil money to green causes. Until then, Arianna, STFU!

Arianna did not have to get in the vehicle at the airport and certainly didn't have to take it back to the airport. I took a cab.

Her only valid excuse would have been that someone forced her into the vehicle at gunpoint. That would probably have been someone like Diane Feinstein who, unlike the rest of the people who want them, has a concealed weapons permit.

I caught her and took the photo. Those of us who watched her get into the vehicle were the ones who were stunned. This bigmouth windbag tells other people what to drive. All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.

Arianna did not have to get into the vehicle they sent to fetch her. She could have taken a cab. At SFO, they have a company that rents hybrids and other environmentally-friendly vehicles. And then, after she gave her keynote speech, she got back into the vehicle. What the picture did not show is that, about thirty yards behind her vehicle, was a lineup of about a dozen cabs.

Arianna, you have been caught. Don't lecture us about what to drive.
