Herndon: illegal immigration supporters voted out

The mayor (Michael L. O'Reilly) and most of the members of the Herndon (Virginia) town council were voted out of office earlier today. That city is home to a day laborer center and the vote was seen as a leading indicator of the illegal immigration debate, the Washington Post sheepishly admits in their falsely-titled report "Immigrant Backlash In Herndon":

Council members Carol A. Bruce and Steven D. Mitchell, who voted for the center, were turned out of office...

[The four members who were voted in oppose the center...] Two incumbents were reelected. Dennis D. Husch was one of two council members to vote against the center when it was approved by the panel in August. He received more votes than any of the eight other council candidates. J. Harlon Reece was the lone supporter of the center who was reelected. He received the fewest number of votes among the winners.

Twenty-six percent of the town's 10,203 registered voters came to the polls, according to Fairfax County figures, up from 20 percent when O'Reilly was elected two years ago.

I love it! Only at the local level are politicians held accountable for their actions. But this accountability may spread to the federal gobierno so beholden to reconquista, and congress just may take a dump this November and become demoRatic, comrades. Uncle Sam needs to do his constituents bidding, like yesterday. The demoRatsss could outflank the GOP on this issue, but they won't, because they have no cojones.

Don't blame me, I didn't vote for Bush.

Whatever else this does perhaps it will at least temporarily wipe that smug smile off the faces of the editorial staff at the WaPo, most of whom live far away from the chaos that massive immigration has brought to the DC area. How many stories did we read that basically centered on the fact that anybody who didn't support this day laborer center was some sort of ignorant xenophobic racist and that the "good" folks of Herndon had prevailed when the center was opened? Well the voters have spoken and I don't think that the WaPo can hang ignorant xenophobic racist on that many people, who were obviously tired of having something they wanted no part of shoved down their throats.

FYI, recently there was a letter to the WaPo - more or less lost in the shuffle of letters regarding the protests last month - that clearly stated that informal job sites had sprung up outside of the Herndon day laborer center, where people picked up day laborers without the formality and paperwork of the center. Apparently many illegal immigrants and their employers prefer no paper trails. As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

I'm glad to see its starting, this is only the Beginning. First the people who aid the criminals in our country, then the big wigs who have given our country away to the oil companies will be next.
