Macarena Hernandez: PIIPP pimping DREAM Act

Macarena Hernandez of the Dallas Morning News offers a PIIPP ("pro-illegal immigration puff piece") called "Good kids are counting on Dream Act". As described below, this article is extremely similar to other articles in this genre. About the only difference is that most start with the sucker punch; in the current case she leads off with a first paragraph with background on immigration "reform":
[...background para deleted...] If that's the case, then I think these leaders need to hear from Carla [1], a bright, ambitious 17-year-old Dallas student who will be directly affected by whatever they decide. This is what she'd tell them:

After watching her mother clean other people's bathrooms for 14 years, she wants something more for her life. She's worked hard, and she's now poised to graduate from high school in the top 10 percent of her class [2]. She wants to go to a good college, but she can't – unless Congress acts. Because Carla (who asked that her last name not be used [3]) is in this country illegally [4], she doesn't qualify for most financial aid. Even if she manages to work her way through school with a low-paying job – the only kind available to her – without legal status, she would be blocked from pursuing her profession... [5]
[1] The sympathetic subject is introduced.
[2] All the subjects of these articles seem to be in the top of their class.
[3] And, almost all of them - we're told - ask that their last names not be used.
[4] Eventually, all these articles inform the reader that the sympathetic subject is here illegally.
[5] And, some of them point out that they won't be able to work anyway. (See [2]'s link.)

Look at the other posts in this category to see just how generic this article truly is. I have trouble believing how anyone could take seriously papers that print such outright propaganda.

If you write to the editor, ask them to verify their sources for the article. This is how Diana Griego-Erwin got shitcanned from the Sac Bee: for fabricating sources.
