rahm emanuel

Rahm Emanuel

Currently running for mayor of Chicago Formerly was Barack Obama's chief of staff, a U.S. Representative from Illinois, and former senior advisor to Bill Clinton. Strong supporter of public service, including of the mandatory kind. Somewhat opposed by far-left bloggers (such as FireDogLake) and others because he realizes how an open-borders stance is a political loser.

Mexico's Calderon meets Obama, proposes "strategic alliance"; immigration; NAFTA - 01/12/09

Mexico's president Felipe Calderon met with Barack Obama for an hour and a half earlier today in Washington DC. After the meeting, Calderon said: "I've proposed to President Obama that we make a strategic alliance of our two governments to confront the common problems and resolve them together, among them security." And, it looks like Obama is open to that idea; see the statement from change dot gov cached here: [Obama] expressed his continued commitment to upgrading NAFTA to strengthen labor and environmental provisions to reflect the values that are widely shared in both of our countries,...

Obama transition releases report on staff contacts with Rod Blagojevich - 12/23/08

The Politburo no doubt had internal investigations, and so too does the incoming Barack Obama administration. They've just released a five-page PDF completely clearing everyone of everything; cached copy here. It includes the news that Obama was interviewed as part of the investigation: These accounts were communicated to the Office of the United States Attorney in interviews that were conducted last week. At the request of the Office, we delayed the release of this report until such time as the interviews could be completed. The interviews took place over a period of three days: Thursday,...

Sun-Times: Rahm Emanuel had direct contact with Blagojevich over Senate seat - 12/18/08

From Natasha Korecki comes this: President-elect Barack Obama's incoming chief of staff Rahm Emanuel had a deeper involvement in pressing for a U.S. Senate seat appointment than previously reported, the Sun-Times has learned. Emanuel had direct discussions about the seat with Gov. Blagojevich, who is is accused of trying to auction it to the highest bidder. Emanuel talked with the governor in the days following the Nov. 4 election and pressed early on for the appointment of Valerie Jarrett to the post, sources with knowledge of the conversations told the Sun-Times. There was no indication...

Rahm Emanuel helped legalize criminal immigrants to get Bill Clinton voters - 12/16/08

From this: A former INS official who attended meetings with Rahm Emanuel when Emanuel was a White House aide says the hard-charging Democrat relaxed rules to naturalize even criminal immigrants and secure their votes for President Clinton ahead of the 1996 presidential election. ...Emanuel coordinated with Hispanic community organizers in Chicago to rubberstamp immigrants for citizenship, the INS official said in an exclusive interview with WND... The program in question was Citizenship USA, run out of Al Gore's office and involving former INS Commissioner Doris Meissner. One of the...

Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel want mandatory community service?; contradicts earlier statements; 100 hours/year in college - 11/07/08

Yet more fun with Barack Obama's president-elect website change.gov, as the page change.gov/americaserves has this: Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. This "requirement" contradicts not only past statements, but another statement on change.gov. From the page "Barack Obama and Joe Biden's Plan for Universal Voluntary Public Service" at change.gov/agenda/service: Obama and Biden will set a goal that all middle and high...

DailyKos discovers McCain $50 lettuce canard, that "jobs Americans won't do" is false - 08/21/08

Remember almost two and half years ago when John McCain said how Americans wouldn't pick lettuce even if they were paid $50 an hour? Since then it's become part of his lore, at least from those who oppose illegal immigration. And, remember how endless hacks trotted out the "jobs Americans won't do" lie, which many of those same opponents said was false? Well, it took them a while, but the DailyKos kids have finally caught up to both.

Immigration march organizers have foreign links - 08/15/08

1. One of the organizers of the March 24 Georgia boycott was Teodoro Maus, a former Mexican consul general. He was also one of the organizers of the October 7 Atlanta march. That march was led by GA state Senator Sam Zamarripa and GA state representative Pedro Marin, both members of the Democratic Party.

Barack Obama's "civilian national security force" (????) - 07/12/08

Back on July 2, Barack Obama read his "public service" address, and it contained this line that hasn't received much notice: "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set... We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded." What the Sam Hill? There's nothing at his Service page (barackobama.com/issues/service) discussing anything near such a program. He wants to increase the size of Americorps, create a "Homeland Security Corps", create other specialized groups,...

Seven reasons Kos (DailyKos) can't be trusted on immigration (+Quinnipiac University poll) - 03/27/08

Can you trust Kos of DailyKos (Markos Moulitsas Zuniga) on immigration? No, you can't. For some of the reasons why, take a look at "The big immigration backlash in Connecticut" (dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3/27/113830/115). 1. He fails to note that, before working for the city of New Haven, Kica Matos headed a group that is/was working with the Mexican government to pass out Matricula Consular cards in that city. As with New Haven's cards, the MC cards let illegal aliens open bank accounts and the like. The bottom line in this case is the bottom line: that makes it easier for illegal aliens...

Flor Crisostomo: the new Elvira Arellano (sanctuary at Adalberto United Methodist Church) - 01/27/08

Via this we learn that Reverend Walter "Slim" Coleman's Adalberto United Methodist Church continues the struggle for in effect open borders with the announcement that they'll be giving "sanctuary" to another illegal alien, Flor Crisostomo. That church grabbed headlines recently for hosting Elvira Arellano, before she was arrested and deported to Mexico, where she remains. Crisostomo's statement says in part: "I am taking a stand of civil disobedience... I believe with all my heart that the United States and Mexico must end the system of undocumented labor." Obviously, "civil disobedience"...

Nutroots: Blue America PAC joins with Mexico-linked group to support illegal immigration (anti-Rahm Emanuel) - 11/14/07

The Blue America PAC - a nutroots/netroots group composed of Firedoglake, Down with Tyranny (run by Howie Klein), Crooks and Liars, and Digby - has apparently decided to make Rahm Emanuel look mainstream by comparison. They're launching a campaign to "fight for the soul of the Democratic Party on immigration issue", i.e., to support massive illegal immigration and an amnesty [1]. Their first ad accuses Emanuel of "betraying" "immigrants" by not opposing the deportation of someone. While her case isn't explained - they usually aren't, at least factually - it sounds like she entered the U.S....

Howie Klein/FireDogLake promotes Josh Hoyt/ICIRR - 11/10/07

Howie Klein at FireDogLake is welcoming Josh Hoyt (aka Joshua Hoyt), executive director of the ICIRR (Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights) to discuss matters with their visitors [1]. That group is a virulent supporter of illegal immigration, and they and their president Juan Salgado helped organize the major Chicago illegal immigration marches last year. Salgado also serves on an advisory committee to Mexico's president, and wrote this letter to Vicente Fox. By promoting him, the FireDogLake crew are in effect being useful idiots for the Mexican government. However, things...

One of the many lies told by immigration "reform" supporters is that their massive amnesty has widespread public support.
